Excellent article, chronicling Turpin’s life. Must hold the greatest single win in British boxing history with his win over Robinson. Certainly had a violent, out of the ring side to him, in keeping with so many, throughout the division’s history.

A truly tragic story of going from seemingly having everything to having nothing. When you think he was the only man to beat SRR in his prime and at his weight (when LaMotta beat him SRR was still a welterweight), and with almost the whole nation, including the king, cheering him on, it is breathtaking how rapid the decline was.

What a tragic life. I’m glad we have come a long way I. Terms of treating mental illness and even acknowledging it and reducing stigma for it, especially in men. Sounds like Randy had a classic case of bi-polar disorder
