Comments Thread For: The Beltline: Why it was important to not let Keyshawn Davis have the last laugh

Such is the trauma of cutting weight, seldom does a fighter approach the scales with a smile on their face, let alone on the brink of laughter. They might, at best, flash a grin for the cameras having received confirmation that they have made weight, but anything more would indicate either that they are a heavyweight ? and therefore don?t have to make a specified weight ? or that they aren?t taking things seriously.?

Glad De La Santos got his purse, and good on his team for pulling him out of the fight.

It sucks for the fans that a fight gets cancelled because of weight issues but it is not fair to the other fighter who kept their side of the contract. Some like Davis, didn't even try to shed more weight down. He wanted to come in more than 4 pounds over the contracted weight. Unacceptable.

Him and his sick brothers need help. I wouldnt let them near a pro event again. They will gang up on the winner if they lose, they dont need more chances. Jail sounds more theraputic

I hope De Los Santos still got his purse! Led by Keyshawn, DB3 just f’d up the bag! I feel sorry for all the legends and fans in the 757! They deserve better! R.I.P. to Pernell “Sweet Pea” Whitaker!

This is why I liked it when some sanctioning bodies required weigh ins in the weeks leading up to the event. Also, another plus for re-hydration clauses. Some fans cry about them trying to hold back and weaken their favorite fighter, the truth is they are the closest thing we have to same day weigh ins.

As an aside, I wouldve liked it if De los Santos wouldve called him out then and there on the scales and told him the fight can go on IF he can make weight sometime that day. Publicly putting the onus on him at the moment, having to drop four pounds so close to the fight. That wouldve been great

iirc the WBC used to post 30 day weigh ins online, are they still doing that?

Well for a start, if writers stop writing about the arrogant entitled to boxers they would have to fall in line, no adverts or articles to fluff they're egos you could blank them so they disappear. But you wont.
