He's fighting in a few days and is close to mandatory position. I don't like the 5 months between fights, but nevertheless he's almost there. He's also been training with Bozy Ennis and gradually acclimating to the professional style. Cruz should be fully prepared when he gets his first title shot.

Tank couldn't even bring himself into fighting Stevenson, let alone a virtual nobody like Cruz in terms of name recognition. This is boxing bro. Fighters on top fight whoever they want. Cruz should focus on building up his own profile and go for fights his own level. I'm not even sure if he has reached De Los Santos level, for instance. Or Pitbull and Rayo when they were at this weight. There's Frank Martin, Harutyunyan, Rivera, etc. Let him go for those names and beat them.
