Cotto was unbeaten and with HBO in 2008, unification should have been easy but Floyd didn't want it. He only fought Cotto when he had no leverage and lost value due to losses, and no longer with Arum.
Williams would have beat Floyd 120-108.

In 2004, Margarito gets beat by Daniel Santos. In 2007 he gets beat by Williams. He then wins three straight fights including his “great handwrap free” Cotto fight before he gets destroyed by Mosley.

Then by some miracle, when Floyd beats up Mosley, you proceed to tell us Mosley was washed up.

Santos was a really good talented boxer but a B/C sider, awkward, tricky, the kind of guy they feed to fighters they want to get knocked off. And the kind they protect A siders like Floyd from. Santos was never gonna be anything but an expendable pawn on the boxing chessboard. The installed money makers were protected from guys like Santos.

Hopkins on the other hand, was an enemy of the establishment, so they forced him to fight Santos type awkward threats like Echols, Robert Allen 3x!, John David Jackson, Morrade Hakkar,

Paul Williams was another great fighter, but used by the estab as a pawn unfortunately. He would have killed Floyd easily, much worse than Castillo did.

Williams would have been a difficult fight for Floyd for sure. The size difference was staggering. But Williams did get beat by Quintana, a nobody in the grand scheme of things.

I agree with you 100% about Hopkins.

It's plausible Castillo played soft in the rematch. Floyd was being groomed as the long term franchise, Castillo was already locked in as a B side. Williams was flat vs Quintana, I believe because he knew he was being wasted as a pawn and that Haymon's top priority was Floyd and Williams was only ever going to be a pawn. He was never going to get the shot to slay Floyd. So that kind of hopelessness I believe affected him in the Quintana fight and later Martinez. Great fighters have trouble getting up for mediocre opponents. Williams was a great fighter who was mismanaged and mistreated by Haymon. He would have ate Floyd alive, or as his trainer George Peterson said, "Put Floyd in a cematary."

I don't dislike Floyd so much but I know the truth. Carefully Protected fighter.
