What the JBC can learn from the BBBofC, not to leave fighters dying in the middle of the ring and to always have paramedics on the ringside as well as oxygen...

No excuse for what happened to Ginjiro Shigeoka not once, but TWICE, especially after the Anaguchi tragedy. The Japanese Commission should be ashamed of themselves for being so slow to get medical attention to distressed fighters.

These guys are just like everybody else. They have all the good rules and all the bad habits. Home town hero worship, their guys are special. They can fight blind and take lickings like candy. They protect everybody else, but their guy carries the national ego. He has to fight to the bitter end. Same old same old.

Being the hometown hero has a serious drawback, everywhere. The local pride can be deadly, the expectations too high. The visitor gets a quick stop, the hometown hero has to go down in flames.

Just a clarifying note regarding this statement: "They, almost refreshingly, expect fighters licensed under the JBC to win their domestic Japanese title or an Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation belt [EBU equivalent] before stepping up to fight for world honours. A fighter can, though, apply for an exemption to this rule. An example of that is their biggest star Naoya Inoue, who was allowed to bypass this rule because of his impressive amateur pedigree."

Inoue won both both the JBC and OBPF titles in his 4th and 5th fights, before fighting for the WBC title in his 6th fight. So, even Hall of Famers and P4P greats benefit from taking the domestic title route.
