The guy’s addicted to the spotlight and can’t stand being irrelevant. Instead of retiring like a legend, he’s out here clinging to faded glory, setting himself up to get humiliated by fighters young enough to be his kids. This isn’t legacy-building, It’s a flat-out embarrassing spectacle of desperation. He’s a washed-up has-been, shamelessly grasping at relevance like a man in denial. There’s nothing dignified here, just an aging fighter too clueless to realize the world has moved on.
It's only me, of course; but I'm suggesting that when posting about a legendary figure, consider having your editor have a glance before hitting send.
Applying terms and phrases like
"Ego trip, The guy’s addicted, can’t stand being irrelevant, clinging to faded glory, embarrassing spectacle of desperation, washed-up has-been, shamelessly grasping at relevance and an aging fighter too clueless to realize the world has moved on, appears to be something born of envy and anger on the part of the author.
Ultra late in his career or not, he remains the most famous and globally important Asian in the world, and arguably the greatest fighter of this century.
I won't object quite as strongly to anyone applying those kinds of wild pejoratives to a grown man prancing around on a sporting field playing a children's game for adult pay, or even an earnest fellow plying a trade that an orangutan could master in 12 months; but Pacquiao? Who never once relied on an oblique kick, a rear naked choke or a finger shoved up his adversary's bung when defeating an opponent professionally?
Nah.
He's way beyond needing to pay any mind to his grossly inferior critics.
