Comments Thread For: Fighting Words: Caleb Plant-Armando Resendiz is why they fight the fights

This was supposed to be a setup. Instead, it ended with an upset. Don?t let anyone spin this otherwise. There was never supposed to be too much danger for either of the top names at the Michelob Ultra Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday night.? The matches weren?t supposed to be evenly matched. This night was supposed to be about Caleb Plant and Jermall Charlo, about them fighting separately before they faced each other.

The only real option for Plant is to rematch Resendiz and beat him soundly, to prove he's still got the will to compete. Anything less means he's heading to sleep against Charlo or any top guys in the division.

Not only does Plant have poor power but his punch resistance has dropped. Resendiz would apply pressure and beat him again in a rematch while Jermall would put him to sleep. Perhaps Plant could fight a gatekeeper like Derevyenchenko, could be a good scrap but I'd still have Derevyenchenko beating him.

Plant never looks good after 6 rounds and loses his sharpness. He still gets things done but if pressured he discombobulates.

Or one of these guys could fight Mbilli.

Time on top is short. Plant came and went in a blink. One and done. Cat.

                Derevy knocks Plant out cold!
If Derevy walked through Munguia and Mbilli's punches he won't fear anything coming from Plant.
Plus Derevy is a pressure fighter who barely lets you breathe. Plant will be uncomfortable the whole fight.

What's not being discussed enough is the insanity of the judges card for Plant..
Because the right guy did end up winning it gets forgotten about ..
The only possible reasons for that card was either corruption or incompetence...both need to be rooted out of boxing for it to survive

Blame Charlo for refusing to fight Plant right away. He wanted a tuneup first.

Now that their "big fight" didn't happen, I would not even spend a minute thinking about Plant's next move. I'd rather see him take a year off and let him have some deep self-analysis on what he'll do next.

Fans need to focus on Charlo now and forget about Plant, and hope not to see Jermall spend another 18 months layoff waiting for Plant.
