Not that this is such an important factor these days, but it does align their schedules so they both have the same amount of time to rest and prepare.

I think it's the fighters themselves who slow-walk these things rather than the promoters. One of the most revealing interviews I ever saw with Hearn was where he talked about fighters wanting "run outs". He then went on to admit the strategy of signing high profile fighters and giving them two smaller fights before a "big one" was a mistake and that he'd rather spend all the money on a big fight straight away.
Big fights are what's valuable for the broadcaster, not the tune ups like last night. Especially when Plant - Charlo isn't that compelling anyway. Were you that interested in it?dannnnn likes this.

Putting small easier fights between major bouts is standard practice in boxing
it preserves the fighters and further milks them
anyone who dislikes these matches need not watch
skip and tune in only for the big bouts

Going from major fight to major fight is unusual and isn’t sustained
manny did it with his string of DLH-Hatton-Cotto
immediately followed by a quartet of easies Clottey-marg-Shane-Marquez [they thought he’d be easy]
back to back big fights are often seen in the form of immediate rematches

I think it's done to milk the public for one more money grab before delivering the big fight everyone wants. Also it helps promote the future superfight.SouthpawRight likes this.
