I don't read a lot into early pad work videos, but he's still dropping his hands low on the recoil. That's gotten him knocked out before, and his footwork isn't going to be as quick and explosive as it used to. Barrios may be weak for a welterweight champ, but he's not exactly a pushover either, and it's not like he has feather fists. I'm very conflicted about this one.

Certain styles age better than others, particularly ones that rely on power and pressure, because power is the last thing to go, and timing stays for a long time as well. But if your style depends on speed, explosiveness, or reflexes, you'll feel great on pads and the bag but find out the truth the hard way when you face a live opponent. Manny is one of the greatest ever to do it, but it's hard to shake the mental image of him going out face down on the canvas and spending his later years with brain damage.

Manny came up under one of the best trainers

I think returning his hands low is intentional style

this habit could make things ugly for mid 40s Manny

No matter how great he looks, heavy bag doesn't hit back. Let's not forget the training footage prior to what was supposed to be Errol Spence. He was at the park and throwing his hands in some of the fastest displays I'd ever seen. Then came the fight against Ugas and either he overtrained and left it all in camp, or his age was just the overall factor.

Timing and pulling the trigger are probably the first to go when a fighter ages. It's simply not there. No matter how bad an opponent might be, if you cannot get the timing down and responding back, you're not going to perform well.
