It's amazing how much thicker Mayweather got during his layoff. He looked much fuller against Marquez and I think he is stronger now.
Layoffs can do that. You stop dieting and training a certain way and your body can now fill out. Floyd was a year round dieter and trainer. Rest, plus nutrition, plus some exercise (but not over-training anymore) = full potential in growth.
It's amazing seeing Female Gymnasts do it as well as boxers that retire. Floyd just won't let himself go completely.
But he isn't that much bigger if at all from his Oscar fight. He was just bigger than his last opponent JMM, but standing near Shane you see that he actually isn't that big.
I agree that you know more about boxing than Jim Lampley and that it is merely a quirk of fate that you are posting on a message board instead of calling HBO bouts.
Lampley is right!!!!!!! PBF doesn't have the mentality for combinations anymore! PBF has been trained to be a defenseve wizard since childhood, his instinces won't allow him to throw combos if theres a chance of getting hit. He will not take a blow to land a blow, even if he wanted to. His trained mind, brain, sences, tell him "hit without getting hit" he can't change it even if he wanted to. He'll counter you all day...AND WIN!!!!! ENJOY HIM FOLKS. we'll never see another like him!!!!
So if Floyd keeps up what he has been doing for years now which is to fight at a slower pace, throw less, and be less willing to trade...what chances does he have against someone like Pac who wants to fight every second of every round?
Maybe Floyd needs to start training to fight like when he was at 130-140.
I brought this up because I've always thought if you put that version of Floyd,130-140 version, up against Pac of today, Floyd wins. But now, ever since his move up to 147 (with the exception of the Mitchell fight)...I'm not as sure. Floyd would have to keep Pac off with his jab (which he finally started to use again), and keep picking him off with body shots and head shots and try to wear down Pac mentally because he might start to become confused on how to attack.
I would still prefer Floyd to fight behind the jab and throw combinations against Pac and just try to pick him apart over the course of the fight.
I'm interested in seeing what happens. Floyd talks about how he adapts to fighters in the ring, well, can he go back to his old self in order to win or will he be what he is now and will that be enough? Not sure. Interesting match-up.
