There are nine 12-rounders across this weekend?s three major cards yet not a whole lot in the way of great matchups, or even good matchups, among them, writes Eric Raskin.

Thanks Eric for stating the obvious about 'Fatal Fury' as a boxing event name.
Is this a situation in which the promotional lackeys don't have the cojones to tell Turki what they think he doesn't want to hear?
To tell you the truth I cannot remember a single boxing card tagline. What's the use in getting upset over the Fatal Fury name when in the summer or fall you've already forgotten it? Fights are remembered, not the promotional tagline.
Typical Canelo or Meican hater the writer of the article is. Inoue vs Cardenas is more of a mismatch than Canelo vs Scull. The Cuban was an amateur pedigree from Cuba, with talent and undefeated in the pros. The fact that Canelo has not KOed in his last fights doesn´t mean he has no power, he is fighting with giants compared to him, never been hurt and has much more fights than Inoue who was knocked fown by Nery.

Scull's only fight at the world level was a hometown robbery decision against Shishkin. He's nowhere close to the level of Ramon Cardenas.
Should be a decent 3 day Boxing marathon every boxing fan must watch regardless of the critics.
There is a legitimate lineal world championship fight on each card, so at least there's that.
Teofimo Lopez is the reigning lineal, TBRB, Ring, and WBO 140 champion defending against the TBRB #1 contender
Canelo is the reigning lineal, TBRB, Ring, WBA, WBC, and WBO 168 champion defending against the IBF titlist
Naoya Inoue is the reigning undisputed and lineal 122 champion defending against the TBRB #5 contender
So yeah. Not the most glamorous weekend in terms of matchups but it's rare to get three legitimate lineal world championship fights so close together.

That fight could have gone either, Scull getting the nod really wasn’t that egregious. Scull was also a decorated amateur and member of the Cuban national team. It’s not like there are loads of guys at 168 with much better ledgers than Scull, who’s got wins over Shishkin, Shvedencheko, and Hemphill. I mean, Mbilli’s the consensus best contender at 168 and his best win is a life and death win over Gongora from a couple years ago and a one-armed, ancient Derevyanchenko. At least Scull has a belt and is top 5. It’s really not that bad of a fight.
Cardenas is decent but he’s still a replacement opponent after Picasso flaked out. His best win is Rafael Pedroza. He’s a good fighter but he’s not really a world-beater. There isn’t all that much separating them in terms of the calibre of each man.
