Pretty simple really: The fighter who hurt the other more wins the round; if neither fighter has a real edge there than the fighter who scored more effectively wins the round; if neither fighter has a real edge in effective scoring than it's an even round. Simple. If one fighter beats up his opponent pretty badly but doesn't score a knockdown then I score the 10-8. If someone scores a knockdown but clearly loses the rest of the round than I score it 10-9 in favor of the fighter that scored the knockdown. If the fighter scoring the knockdown gets dominated during the rest of the round than I score it even. Not complicated.
