I think Benavidez is a good fighter, but he sure gets a lot a of hype for a guy who spent a decade a 168 and whose best wins are Anthony Dirrell and Caleb Plant. Even before Canelo stepped into the division, why didn't he fight DeGale, Plant (after DeGale vacated), Callum Smith, Zurdo Ramirez, Billy Joe Saunders. If Benavidez had to wait for his shot, it's because he hadn't done anything to press it with the competition he was facing. It took his win over Plant before he could really say he'd beaten another top contender.
look at his boxrec its a good cv he fought good guys and everyone and i mean everyone wanted the canelo fight stop BSing please canelo and the wbc conspired to freeze him out which they did well done to them but its shameful stuff and then demanding 200 mil benny had no options but to go to 175 for big fights as canelo would never fight him and thats clear to all

Explain why would Canelo demand $200 million to fight Benny only to go back to his usual pay ???

Why would that be according to you ???

Canelo should of been stripped but that didn’t happen either because of the shady Sulaiman
No one would question his choice of opponents if he just dropped the belts and did what he’s doing
Your here trying to ring up something that has been argued or years and proven that he is ducking his mando
        With no repercussions either
Canelo didn't avoid the mandatory, because it was never called, negotiations were never ordered nor were purse bids. You can blame the WBC for that and I can see the argument that it probably should have been called sooner. But Bena would have been able to invoke it had he moved back down after Gvozdyk and chose not to. Bena might have considered it a waste of time if he thought Canelo would vacate, but I also think he should have done it anyway because it was a win-win situation, either he forces Canelo to take the fight, or he gets a huge PR win as Canelo would have had to vacate the title making it clear as crystal he didn't want the fight.

I wouldn't say Canelo hasn't had any repercussions, most boxing fans do agree with your opinion he ducked Benavidez and consider his recent opponents underwhelming. He's dropped in most outlets P4P lists (I think the Ring have him #7).

I mean, the $200mil was trash talking bollocks, but I don't doubt Canelo would have waited for Bena to be enforced as mandatory so he could leverage the champions split in negotiations. But I don't think that to be unreasonable given the profile of the fighters. Of course Canelo was going to get the lion's share.

Tbf Canelo v Benavidez was only clamoured for; for a year before Bena moved up to 175. It's not a fight with years of anticipation. Bena won the interim title against Lemeiux in 2022 (around the same time Canelo fought Bivol), and there wasn't any hot demand for Bena v Canelo immediately after that. Bena didn't fight for 10 months after and then fought Plant in 2023, that's when the hype started to get going. In real terms there's only been two opponents Canelo has faced where the fans overwhelming called for Benavidez and that's when Canelo fought Charlo and when he fought Munguia.

Benavidez was in the mandatory position, but it wasn't called by the WBC so Canelo never had an obligation to face him. Had Benavidez moved back down and invoked his mandatory it would have forced Canelo to take the fight or face the shame of vacating.

It would have been a good fight, but I've never really been as hyped for it as other fans seem to be. Mainly because I think Benavidez' 168 resume is fairly underwhelming. He would have probably only been Canelo's 3rd best win at 168 by my estimation.
