Even before Canelo stepped into the division, why didn't he fight DeGale, Plant (after DeGale vacated), Callum Smith, Zurdo Ramirez, Billy Joe Saunders. If Benavidez had to wait for his shot, it's because he hadn't done anything to press it with the competition he was facing. It took his win over Plant before he could really say he'd beaten another top contender.
