    Where are the REAL German champs at?

    Maske, Ottke, werent they native Germans? I dont get all the love for the eastern fighters that move there and are embraced as German. maybe I'm saying it wrong bc I'm drinking, but its not like Oleg Maskaev, who is an american now, is considered a champion from the states. he was even a citizen when he won the WBC if I'm not wrong. I guess my question is "where is the demand for a natural born, badass German fighet/champion"? and dont give me Sturm bc he isnt either.

      Pretty sure Ottke and Maske were German born and bred, it's just that they were from East Germany, which is why they had good AM careers because of the system in place there.

        thats why I listed them. I think they are/were the last 2 real German champs.

        I know everyone is drunk tonight and talking **** so I guess I'll bump this later. I was looking for someone who could explain germanys love for foreign fighters and where all the good german born and bred fighters are

          I guess Juergen Braehmer might be the closest to what you're looking for.
          I think you should be pleased with the fact that your country's fans and promoters are open-minded enough to support German based foreigners and accept them as their own.
          The only thing I have a problem with is how they're made to feel they have to change their names to be more accepted.
          Felix Sturm = Adnan Cacic
          Abraham = Abrahamyan
          Robert Stieglitz = Sergey Shtikhlits

          I don't know whether it's the fighters' choice or the promoters', but either way, they shouldn't have to feel the need to change their names.

            yeah, I once knew a fighter named Akram who had to change it to "Mark"

            I just want to see a native german make some noise.

              Do you know whether he chose to change it himself or was he advised to do this by others?

              Heheheh, if every country worried about 'native' fighters, the UK fans would feel they don't currently have any champs and I don't think there's ever been a Native American champion from the US, at least not within the last few years.

                i think it's just cuz they don't have any homegrown guys to root for so next best thing i guess.

                Also alot of them tend to show respect to Germany by putting in the effort to speak the language which is always a good thing.

                I have also wondered about the name thing, wtf? I can't imagine a promoter having the balls to insist they change their name.
