When they say a 'football player' do they mean 'American football' or 'association football'? I'm guessing they play 'American football' in Canada even though they aren't (yet) part of USA?

Yes they do play American football in canada they even have there own league called the CFL. It's where mostly undrafted American football players go when they don't make the cut in the NFL coming out of college
