Boxing is a young man's sport. Anything else is abstract and unusual.

Because boxers fight so less frequently than in previous years they can go on longer. Look at the total fights of each fighter & no-one has had a great many fights compared to fighters of the 60s or 70s let alone the 20s, 30s & 40s where fighters routinely had 300 bouts or more. At this age technique will, naturally, matter more than reflexes which simply can't last that well as you age, so no surprise that Lara & Beterbiev are there & Rigondeax would be higher had he not, in the truest sense 'had a disaster with the rice n peas'.

Erislandy Lara, Bernard Hopkins, George Foreman. It's rare but it happens.

Going back, Archie Moore had over 200 fights & went on to well over 40. I think Bob Fitzsimmons was around 40 when he won his last title at LHW. In a way the most amazing thing is that the Japanese guy made 105ib when he was 18 & still makes it now he's 41. Someone is missing a trick because his diet book should be on every 'celebrity weight loss' list. Like you say, its rare but it can happen if you don't have a very high-energy style.

Depends on the individual, genetics, career, mental state and ability, boxers are already hitting late 30s and 40s and winning at elite level because of nutritional science and modern training, which doesn't mean anybody can do it you must be holding the right hand so to speak to win this pot.

Many boxers today starts late pro and/or fighting 1-2 times yearly are also factors. You have Beterbiev with just 20+ fights at the age of 40, in comparison Pac already had 70+ fights by the time he reached the same age. They have the same Age but different mileage as Pacquiao was way past his prime at that point of his career.
