Comments Thread For: Ranking the seven fights on the Dmitry Bivol-Artur Beterbiev bill, part two

On February 18, we ranked the fights on the ?Last Crescendo? card based on the quality of the matchups. Now that we?ve witnessed each of the seven contests, it?s time to rank them again based on the quality of the action.?

Very nice summary of a great card.
For the HW division, I’d like to see

(Kabayel vs Dubois)against the winner of (Parker vs Usyk)

Parker deserves a first shot at Usyk.

As for Bakole, my favourite HW to watch; take on that AJ bout in Kinshasa.

I think the drama of the big fight swayed these ratings. The main event was nowhere near as exciting as Smith vs Buatsi. That was an epic match and a clear front runner for fight of the year.

Maybe if you're just in it for violence. The technical skill of the main event was clear levels above Buatsi v Smith. Both fights required both fighters to dig deep and show grit and that they wanted it, but the champions were levels above in stamina AND in quality. If you value the sweet science, it wasn't even close between the two. If you just want to watch some dudes slug it out, then Smith v Buatsi can be mentioned, although Ortiz v Madrimov would be reasonable to mention as well.

I also disagree on the placement of the Ortiz fight on this. I thought it was an awesome tactical battle when in the beginning I couldn't imagine Ortiz winning it

                Totally agree.
Top 5 fight of the year until now
1st for round of the year - round 6
honorable mention for best durability in 2025 for Buatsi
footnote - Buatsi will NOT be the same fighter going forward - that was a damaging beat down (abeit he was competitive)

For me there weren't enough power shots landed by Ortiz and especially Madrimov. Madrimov my be the fittest boxer I've seen in a long while - kept up exceptional movement for 9 rounds as well as keeping Ortiz honest. Ortiz' discipline keeping his shape was exemplary.

I had 2 queries from last night.

                    1. what happened in the Zhang fight when he doubled over and the ref stopped the action, did he think he was knocked down? Was he protecting zhang? I might’ve missed the commentary on TNT but didn’t hear them mention it

                    2. what was up with bivol when he stopped throwing the right hand for almost 2 and a half rounds. And when he stopped, why did Beterbiev stop coming forward so strong, instead of steamrolling like he usually does. It was the right hand and combinations keeping him back.
