That was a bad lost to Loma mentally. Now he's older I doubt he can win another belt.

This article title doesnt credit him for being a former champ. They list him only as a title challenger but he held full WBA belt. Weird.

No shame in losing to Loma, but the timing wasn't great. I think the success of beating Donaire went to his head, then the problems started. Overweight for Marriaga, draw against Sosa, a guy he should have beaten fairly easily.. The Loma beatdown seemed forthcoming at that stage of his slow demise.

It's really unfortunate that Axe Man took so long off. He was a really good fighter. I hope that he is able to get a good run going and set himself up for retirement. He's a class act all around.

Despite his performances after beating Donaire and retiring after losing to Loma, I think he looked good against tough journeyman in Joseph Adorno, despite his 7 years of inactivity. Perhaps he is more focused and trains more consistently now, but it seems difficult to see him get big opportunities considering his age and likely inability to cut down to his natural weight class.
