I can see Yarde and Buatsi headling the o2. Not convinced about anything else. I guess Buatsi is a quiet guy but it's unreal to think he's been a pro for 9 years.

But....
These two have no momentum and sadly no charisma.
To the extent aside from picking up an interim belt what happens then?
Maybe it is a sign of the new saudi era that it doesn't matter but both of these I feel would struggle to sell out an arena in England fighting Beterbiev or Bivol.
No other active UK fighters in the country would be able to achieve such a feat besides 'Anthony Joshua,,or Tyson Fury if he comes out of retirement'.
I will admit? I have personally never been big supporters of the Smith brothers 'And Callum Smith's career, really has not inspired me that much. David Price's career was by far more intriguing and dramatic than Callum Smith's thus far'.
But as a Unit, The Smith brothers their legacy in the game 'Is very intriguing'. They are without a shadow of a doubt, the biggest most supported fighters in the Liverpool.
Note: Liverpool, Manchester, Belfast, Dublin, London 'Those cities are the fight cities in British Boxing'. Culturally and historically the premier cities for the sport on a domestic level are between Liverpool, Manchester, Belfast and Dublin'.
If Callum Smith can beat Joshua Buatsi 'He can be involved in big fights, at World level once again'.
I think most UK boxing promoters would look at Callum Smith as a definitive asset to their team, if he can win 'Seriously, both Smith brothers are with Eddie Hearn. If their careers had no business potential? A promoter like Eddie Hearn in my opinion would not be working with them. Because MatchRoom and Hearn are competitors themselves, and they want to stage big events. Whether that be at Domestic or World level'.
To put this into perspective 'This fight is Joshua Buatsi's biggest fight, he has ever been involved in outside of the Olympics. In comparison this fight is not Callum Smith's biggest ever boxing event he has competed in'.
To conclude: This fight is a higher level fight than David Benavidez vs David Morrell Junior 'That is the reality of the match up. I have stated that the winner of this fight, could potentially fight David Benavidez to decide which fighter? Will be next in line to fight for the 175 pound World titles'.
David Benavidez vs David Morrell Junior was no 175 pound coronation 'Callum Smith vs Joshua Buatsi is most likely a similar level fight. You have one proven World level fighter in Callum Smith, the former WBA and Lineal Ring Magazine Super Middle Weight Champion vs Joshua Buatsi the current WBO Interim light Heavyweight Champion and a fighter who is still undefeated in the professional ranks. Both Callum Smith and Joshua Buatsi also were higher level Amateur fighters than David Benavdiez and David Morrel Junior. Smith was the Commonwealth Amateur Champion, and Buatsi the Olympic Bronze Medallist in 2016'.
David Benavidez is not for certain owed a World title fight next 'After beating David Morrel Junior. That victory in my opinion, is not a high enough level win' etc.

I just can't see that with the Smith Bros at this point. Especially not in a fight he probably wont win. But you're right in the sense they could do a mega scouse card as there is plenty of Liverpool fighters coming up now in the lighter weights but Anfield? They are gonna need another World class fighter to emerge imo.
Off the back of the Groves win is where you would say Callum and Liam could have had that night.
I do agree though. It is impressive to have 4 bros who have challenged for World honours (did Stephen?)
I like Liam as a fighter. It is not really Callum's fault but I didn't like how he gave Ryder no props and not giving him the rematch - that was a clear win for Ryder in my eyes.
I wouldnt criticise him for coming up a fair bit short against Canelo and Beterbiev. They're two of the best fighters of this generation.Last edited by Sparked_26; 02-18-2025, 12:07 PM.
