How you throw a punch is the most important factor. You have to create power through leverage. You can do that by setting your feet and using your hips and body to turn your body into a slingshot and your hand into the stone being propelled by the slingshot. Wilder learned how to do this well. Alot of skinny big power guys learn it.

Big guys, like Holmes, Foreman, etc, were so big that when they set down on their punches and put their hips into it, a punch was nasty.

Creating leverage and delivering at the end of the punch is the key. All people can deliver a KO punch if landed on the temple or jaw correctly. Most great punchers were very accurate. Landing a punch on the button is a real skill.

Being stronger, having big muscles, fast twitch, big hands, etc, can all make it easier to achieve. But learning how to create power through leverage and practicing accuracy is the most important thing in producing KO power.

Technique matters the most. Power in punching is about force on target, and lights out power often is about hitting people when they don't expect it. I've gotten almost half my knockouts with a short punch that's not actually my most "powerful" punch in terms of force; it's just a short punch that my opponents don't see coming because they don't think I can generate force from that position.

The force part is literally mass times acceleration, eg how much of your body weight you recruit, how fast you can get it moving (and also if you can sustain the acceleration the whole way). That's why there's such an emphasis on the hips; rotation is one of the most efficient ways to get most of the body mass involved, although you have to actually transfer weight from foot to foot, not just rotate on the spot.

Fast twitch muscle can help because it helps with acceleration, but if you're developing fast glycolytic fibers, you're going to gas out. Fast oxidative IMO is more effective for boxing. Flat stomach? There's plenty of fat guys who have good power. Andy Ruiz comes to mind as a current example. Density of body composition also seems to matter too, if only because of the relative mass component and the greater stability afforded for force transfer.

You left one key element they must have without it nothing else matters, the mind wants to punch hard, its like a hard biting dog big small doesnt matter their mind wants to hurt, which why some skinny wiry guys can punch like a mule and some muscle bound brutes cant bruise a berry.

I like what's said about technique here. It's similar to batting well in the game of baseball. There's balance and hip rotation involved to create some centrifical force, along with a forward motion. And then there's the mindset of punching through the target, not just punching the target.

As for the rest, I'll let the legit boxers add their expertise.

And like crimsonfalcon07 said about his technique, I've def seen quick sharp short punches get KOs. It's not just long wind-ups like when you're hitting the punching machine at a carnival.

the most important aspect of punching power is who you are fighting. wilder has a 100 percent ko ratio against bums and non ranked fighters and only 25 percent against ranked fighters so the key is just to fight bums to be powerful

Ehhh…Wilder was a half second away from having a KO of fury. And he dropped him in the rematch. His power was definitely real vs strong and weak opposition but unfortunately for him thats all he really had

Usyk nearly kod fury not to mention guys like cunningham and ngannou dropping him. None of them are punchers. Fury just goes down a lot. Wilder admitted to picking an oit out shape fury in the first fight and couldn't put him away
