Morrell Was Low Key Toying With Benavidez

oh yeah just like fury was toying with usyk when he was showboating? thats called being out of answers. when you arent able to match your opponent you essentially give up at least subconsciously and in order to protect your own ego you start showboating and taunting because then you can tell yourself "i wasnt even trying!" because if you did try you would lose, and lose hard.
Broner did better than Morrell in terms of really trying to hurt Maidana in the later rounds of their fight, which is just one example among many at the top of my head. (And Marcos was all defense at that point.) I didn't see that in Morrell.Last edited by tomhawq; 02-06-2025, 07:58 PM.Comment

When Ali, RJJ, Naz typically showboated it'd be followed up with some brilliant offense coming off of it. They often did it because they was in a groove and to set up their attacks, a distraction or to create angles.
In the case of Morrell and Fury it was done more as a distraction for them missing or being completely off balance.
These days it seems to give some sort of false illusion. Fury 1 being a perfect example - Fans, promoters, himself, his team was acting like his showboating was him finding it easy in there and playing with Usyk but the reality was he didn't showboat once unless it was him getting hit or missing badly and stumbling off balance.
Somehow we have gotten to a stage where instead of it being them playing off a bit of clumsiness, basically acknowledging they've been hit or whatever they seem to be getting credit and people are deluding themselves that its being done when they're successful when in fact its the complete opposite.Comment

Morrell definitely lost the fight, without a doubt. But Morrell was in there playing around with Benavidez. Taunting him, show boating, standing right in front of him with his hands down. Even in Round 11 when he got the knock down, he was playing with Benavidez with his hands down at his side. Morrell hurt Benavidez multiple times and Morrell was never hurt. Benavidez wasn't even countering Morrell because everytime Morrell threw, Benavidez shelled up because he felt the power. Benavidez is a good fighter but Morrell showed he is not the same guy when he's fighting someone his size. Gvozdyk showed it too but Gvozdyk was throwing pity pat baby punches. Morrell messed up Benavidez face badly.
