“Naysayers”? You mean people speaking facts? Also, how is she undisputed when you said she was WBC and tonight won the WBO and IBF? Where’s the WBA title? Look through her record, you’ll find nothing but novices and hype jobs. She’s won around 9-10 vacant titles as well. GWOAT isn’t a title that should exist as there hasn’t been any women deserving of being called great, which is a term thrown around these days. And if any should have that term used about them, it would be Katie Taylor cos she’s actually fought some decent fighters in her career.

I kind of knew about this fight but I had no clue when it was happening. The fight being on a Sunday was a little ballsy by the promoters, considering it was a women’s fight, no pun intended.

Shields is such a trashcan it’s unbearable to watch. This was on YouTube streaming for free I caught the main event and the self proclaimed “gwoat” was sneak fouling trying to get the KO its was just terrible. This was was clearly a mismatch from the start, and she was pulling dirty fouls idc what any says she’s an embarrassment to boxing Laila Ali would’ve knocked her out devastatingly

Right, a Sunday night unification title fight ought to tell you something right there.
I caught the main support bout, a total sideshow embarrassment - both fighters made it the worst hugfest ever, then they fell out of the ring TOGETHER, collapsed the DAZN commentator's table, and couldn't get off each other for about 5 minutes.
It looked they they were in the missionary position asking "Was it good for you? It was good for me".
Then the ladies came on, and I turned it off after Round 8.
I can't believe I even made it that far.
            Enough was enough.

Her opponent is 42 years old and has had 5 fights.

What even is women's boxing? Like, I'm not being funny what are we doing here? Who is this for?

The fact no body even knew this "historic event" was on really tells you all you need to know.

Did you notice the floor of the arena had people, but even the first row of the tiered seating (and up) was empty. In Claressa's hometown, even.
                Nobody cares.

Now Shields wants to rematch Crews and Hannah who has eaten her way up to heavyweight. Women's boxing is dead above 147.

Combined record of Shields opponents at the time of their fight with her: 206-22-6
Combined record of Ali opponents at the time of their fight with her: 183-58-12 (and 45 of those wins were Christy Martin's)

Despite having 24 fights compared to 16 for Shields, Ali's opponents had considerably fewer wins. And, on average, they had far fewer fights and far more losses on their records. Because it was an extremely shallow pool of inexperienced women fighting each other over and over. The infrastructure for amateur competition, professional training, finding sparring partners, etc simply didn't exist then as it does now.

Even today, in 2025, women's boxing above 160 is extremely shallow compared to the lower weights. But the difference between now and 20-25 years ago is absolutely drastic. Forget the Olympics and amateur world championships, women's boxing was straight up illegal in many of the countries that supply its best fighters today. Shields had beaten more good fighters by her 5th pro fight than Ali saw in her whole career.
