Comments Thread For: Ronnie Shields' beautiful mind accompanies David Morrell to showdown with David Benavidez

The project before Ronnie Shields is massive. Thankfully for the veteran trainer, so is his library of experience. Shields, the 66 year old cornerman for Cubas unbeaten David Morrell, is charged with the unenviable assignment of crafting a fight plan to defeat the peaking and ferocious "Mexican Monster", Phoenixs David Benavidez...

Good article. I like both what Ronnie and David are saying. The combination of a solid trainer and a solid fighter can produce magic. I’m hoping Morrell gets the “W” on Saturday.

Ronnie Shields is one of those trainers who lacks the credit in boxing he deserves but he's not a part time trainer and never has been and came up with the greats of the past plus he was a solid fighter himself. One of the most gifted trainers today by far!

Talking about it and doing it are two different things. This said, I do believe in Morell's chances because he is big, well schooled and determined, and has a great team. But he's got to start fast, put rounds in the bank, weather the storm in the middle rounds, and close strong.

Morrell better box very precisely. Those holes they see outside the ring, look different inside the ring. That's why a master boxer like Caleb couldn't do what you think he should have done. If he could've, he would've. Benavidez isn't in there just throwing punches. If that's all he did, he would have been beaten long ago. He also uses his brain, and he's a seasoned professional. Having said that, Morrell can knock your brains out. He's no joke at all. This fight will be something worth seeing...

One of the better articles about this fight.

I remember that at one point, Shields didn't feel Morrell was quite ready for this fight, but now he sounds fully confident that the time is now.

Succinct post. I agree to all. Morrell has to keep up with Benny’s activity. I’d like to see him cause damage in the early going. This is going to be a tough fight for both men — or should be.

Both David's didn't look impressive at 175 thus taking on each other before they get exposed.

Exposed? That's how you see this fight? If I recall correctly, your idol canelo got exposed, boxing speaking, by floyd, Lara, ggg and bivol, and heart speaking by benavidez, and by Morrell Jr., who was his mandatory for three years.
