If he could've, he would've. Benavidez isn't in there just throwing punches. If that's all he did, he would have been beaten long ago. He also uses his brain, and he's a seasoned professional. Having said that, Morrell can knock your brains out. He's no joke at all. This fight will be something worth seeing...
I think the big issue for Plant was that he's not really got enough power to keep Benavidez honest. He at least only had a half inch reach disadvantage, but he doesn't have the power to really keep the bigger man on the outside, and his style requires him to be scoring points and stay switched on for 12 full rounds. Bivol has a similar issue. Morrell has a 3" reach advantage and has scored one punch KO's. So not really in the same boat as Plant. Benavidez has a lot of the same defensive issues that Devin Haney has, and may find out the hard way in this fight. Experience is going to be an issue for Morrell though. Morrell has a propensity for getting drawn into firefights, so while he has the right tools to take advantage of Benavidez' flaws, I'm not convinced he's got the maturity to stick with a gameplan long enough to keep Benavidez from staying in the fight. Both are good at committing early and often to the body though, so gas tanks may not look the same as we expect...

You're saying the problem with Morrell is then maturity? I seriously doubt that seeing how he's behaved in the ring. The dude has a long trajectory in the sport and didn't have the issue of struggling from amateur to pro style because his style was always closer to pro.

I do agree with you on the difference between Caleb and Morrell being important. That reach advantage may be very significant in fact, we'll have to see how Benavidez deals with it. Morrell's ability to deal with the pressure from Benavidez is the other big question mark along that of power.

It's really a 50-50 fight in my eyes, I still see Benavidez winning but there are some uncertainties that make this bout fascinating!

It's professional experience at the championship level. He's got all the tools for the upset, and I'm picking him to pull it off. BUT, if he doesn't, I'm pretty confident it will be because he didn't stick to the gameplan and allows Benavidez to turn it into a firefight and gets drawn into unnecessary 50-50 exchanges. That's Benavidez' fight. Morrell should be working on the outside and driving Benavidez back onto the back foot when Benavidez tries to rest, setting lateral traps to take advantage of Benavidez' bad footwork, and countering in combination when Benavidez overreaches or resorts to his static high guard. He's got the speed, power, feet, and skills to keep Benavidez guessing all night, and probably drop him to boot. But if they start slugging it out, that makes it easier for Benavidez to get into it and take over. He has let his ego get into things before and gotten hit with unnecessary shots that he didn't need to get hit by, and IMO that comes down to maturity at the championship level.

Morrell Jr is certainly better than Plant. He's got a fair chance to win.

Benavidez is tough though, and though he does look robotic at times, he's mostly effective.

Canelo ran from GGG for 6 years, so he'll fight Benavidez eventually... Come on, just give him like 5 more years and some Clenbuterol tacos. BUT it has to be in the contract that there will be NO VADA testing for Canelo whatsoever, but there has to be VADA testing for David everyday and night leading up to fight night, starting from 30 weeks out. Also, David can't eat ANY food or water for the last 2 weeks of camp. That way it's an even playing field and Canelo won't have to worry about 25 extra lbs he said Benavidez brings to the ring. Oh also Benavidez can only make $800.36, and get a few free fitted hats and an old sick donkey, and no ppv money or any other money. That way, he'll face him and won't be worried about getting an ouchie in his brain on fight night. Canelo is the cash cow so it has to be this way or no fight ever!
                CANELO... VIVA MEXICOOOOO!!!!

Your Idol Mayweather for exposed by Castillo and Maidana.

GGG got exposed by Jacobs and Derevyanchenko, got beat by Canelo clearly in the second fight.

                    Lara ran more than Shakur

Bivol got beat by 41 year OLD his OWN weight
