Wilder deserves more respect

He lost to every single good boxer he fought. Fury, Zhang, Parker.
respect for what? Being a bum beater? Ok.Comment

usyk gets praise because he fights everyone and he wins. wilder was almost the opposite until the end when he had no other options but to take tough fights and he flubbed it hardcore. dont like the word hate but he was overrated as he-ll and theres nothing wrong with saying that. when someone is performing a con on the public at large theres nothing wrong with pointing it out. wilders popularity was outrageous given his lack of resume and lack of getting in the ring with the top guys in the division. even now people are revising history and forgetting that the first fury fight was a huge cherry pick that simply backfired, wilder himself said fury was out of shape and on drugs and he should thank wilder for the opportunity lolLast edited by daggum; 01-14-2025, 07:27 PM.Comment

the only reason people thought he was a power puncher was because his level of opposition was very poor. michael grant ko'd more top 10 fighters than wilder and people call him a hype job and failure and all this other crap but if thats true then wilder must be as well because grants resume is acually slightly better than wilders but because wilder held a belt and defended it against utter bummage people have wilder tinted glassesComment

I guess in a way, he could be considered similar to Berlanga except Berlanga didn't have as vicious of a run knocking out bums as Wilder did. I also do like Wilder's KO of Ortiz in their first and second fight. I think that's when I thought his power was for real. The Breazeale KO was awesome, but nobody considered that dude as some special heavyweight.
At the end of the day, if you lower expectations on Wilder, I think he was just a very entertaining heavyweight and helped the division by being in it. There was the constant back and forth rivalry between him and AJ. It gave an excitement of the "what if they fought" that we didn't have in some time in heavyweight boxing.Comment

I'll say this about Wilder: he was entertaining insomuch that, despite fighting lesser opposition, it was always fun wondering when that right would land and how the other guy would take it. That, and I'd sooner watch Wilder again than Jake Paul, so there's that.
He had a place in the sport. It was behind a right hand and nowhere else, but he had a place.Comment

@ people clowning Wilder. Did he have good skills? No. Did he have good form? Hell no! Was he a one-trick pony? Yes. But did he use that one trick to make more money than most of us here on Boxing Scene will ever make, in one of the toughest sports out there? Hell, yes! Shit, for that, the man gets mad props from me.
