Marlon Starling and José Luis Ramirez were much better fighters than Pazienza. If he gets in while they remain out, that's a huge stain on the sport of boxing.

I sparred with him a lot for the Gilbert Dele fight, and that was a magnificent performance by him. He boxed really, really, really well that night on his toes with very fast hands.
I remember when he had the accident and not long that after I went to visit him at his house and he took me in the basement and showed me how he was lifting weights to get strong again. I was never a weightlifting type of guy and even though he was smaller than me, he definitely could live a lot more weight than I couldComment

HOF is not a p4p list, its more about a fighters contribution to the sport that's why its voted on with a wide brush, its not just titles, its not just wins and loses, its all of it, accomplishments persona longevity level of competition, the HOF is not a race about who is 1st 2nd and Third on the racetrack, its about appreciation and acknowledgement from the sport for what was given to the sport.Comment

So in other words, it has become a personality contest based on everyone's feelings and how warm & fuzzy a particular fighter makes the beta segment of the fans feel. My silly ass always thought it was about how you performed in big fights against top-tier competition.Comment

This isn’t the Baseball HOF, by far the most stringent sports shrine. Boxers don’t get in based solely on their accomplishments. If it were up to me, Canastota would be a lot more like Cooperstown…but it’s not. This discussion has been had many times on this forum. Right now I’m content with enjoying an article about a man who, like him or not, was an interesting character and an inspiration.Comment
