With all the money boxing generates there is no reason why some of that can’t be taken and used to establish something positive. An organization that cares for old fighters, that provides financial advisers, that helps young boxers navigate the promotional minefield.

Greed, dude. No one — no one — will take the initiative on the part of the fighters, unless they’re forced to. There is no union in this sport. The only reason the major sports have pensions and league minimum salaries is because the players stood together against the owners. Boxing doesn’t have the same structure. There are no owners, only promoters. It’s very tough to arrange a system that protects the 99% of fighters who don’t earn enough to retire on. It would probably take an act of congress.

yes, YES, I still that do that for a bunch of fighters. As a matter of fact, I just sent the former champion in need $2000 about three hours ago. I do it on my Facebook pages. Basically I put up boxing items - usually autographed by different fighters - and send the proceeds to different fighters in need

I’m not sure if I answered this before or not but I’ll tell you YES, absolutely, I’m still doing that on a regular basis for quite a few fighters who have run into hard times, either physically or financially
