Canelo was the first ever undisputed 168 champion ,something Ward, Toney ,RJJ nor Calzaghe never accomplished, IMO the ginger would have had the same chances to beat any of them on a perfect night, ofc thats just hypothetical talk, we will never really know for sure.

Breadman writes:"Marcos Maidana is not a HOF fighter. But if he lived in the Northeast part of the USA and he wasn’t Nicaraguan." Wrong Continent Mr. Edwards! Maidana is from South America -- Agentina to be exact. Nicaragua is in North America. But hey I get it, all Latinos are... no I won't say it...

"Usyk, for as great as he is, is a complainer."

I thought the same thing while parting part II. I like Usyk, but he looks to the ref for any punch the is remotely not "legal". I agree with Breadman that Holyfield would take advantage of that.

Also, Hagler beat SRL. He won 2 of the first 6 rounds and 5 of the last 6 rounds. Final tally: 7-5 Hagler.

That wouldn't help him in the ring against those guys. That run, though, was the most impressive of Canelo's career. His APEX as Breadman likes to put it. I agree with whoever wrote in about Canelo being gifted more fights than the average fighter and stacking the deck. But, that run at Super Middle was great. Too bad he chickened out against Benavidez. I think David would beat him, but I don't think it's guaranteed. Canelo ducking, though, gives the perception that Canelo himself felt like he'd get beaten.

Sorry, El Mero, I generally agree with you, but I don't see Boots not fighting Ortiz this minute as a duck. He said in the ring after his last fight that he prefers to unify at 147 before jumping up to 154. I think those young men with get it on before long. I'd like to see Boots vs Stanionis over anybody else at 147. That's his biggest challenge there.

Boots was calling out Ortiz and only after accepting the fight did he rekindle this unifying 147

I like that you don’t even need to explain how Toney would have beat the pants off Canelo.
I like the shoutout to Vitali as well. He was the best non Lennox heavyweight in the last 25 years but got overshadowed by injuries and his brothers activity

There is no night in the history of Canelo’s life that would put him anywhere close to beating a prime Roy Jones. He doesn’t beat any of the other 3 either. Sounds good on paper when you reference him being the only undisputed champion but conveniently ignore the lesser competition that was in the division for him to do so, and the fact that the wbc conveniently threw in their title for free as part of his fight with Smith. Yeah it’s all hypothetical, but common sense should prevail and the eye test is clear to know that he was beneath all of them as a boxer.

Anytime someone brings up Evander Holyfield in the Mailbag they should include that he needs an asterisk next to his record. Because of the PEDs. Just like Bread likes to say about Canelo and his positive test.
Yes the same standards should be applied to everyone equally but in order to do that, you need to make accurate comparisons. Boots and Ortiz were in the same weight class until Ortiz couldn’t make weight. Boots is champ at 147 and Ortiz is merely a contender at 154. Sure I’d love to see the fight but boots turning that down because he wants to unify in HIS division isn’t the same as Canelo refusing to fight the obvious # 1 opponent in his own division for years and then choosing to fight a prospect Berlanga, a mediocre munguia , a junior mw charlo, etc etc etc.
