Comments Thread For: Comeback Fighter of the Year: Daniel Dubois

By now, the highs and lows of Daniel Dubois come as no surprise to a global boxing audience. This past year marked a stretch during which we were stunned by the rate of his development, a performance that has earned him BoxingScene's 2024 Comeback Fighter of the Year award.

DDD will reign this division, Usyk will not beat him in the rematch if it happens.

We will definitely be in the minority, but I think so too. I think that the NEW BIG DOOBIE beats Usyk this time around. He now has the thing that was missing previously. Something that you can not be taught or trained. It's self confidence and belief that was previously missing. Big Doobie is young , big , hits hard enough to stop Usyk , and has the handspeed to catch Usyk with a big shot that he won't see coming.
Big Doobie has been reborn , he's now Daniel The Destroyer Dubois and he is coming to claim what's his , the Heavyweight Division.

Styles make fights, and he might start living by his nickname. He'll be gunning for that body off the bat.

If there was a rematch, Usyk will be close to 40

I give Dubois tremendous credit for his last 3 fights, he's on a great run of form, probably second best 3 fight sequence in the division currently.

But, I'm not willing to completely forget that he has quit twice in fights.

I don't get angry or offended by fighters quitting, they are within their rights to and I'm not a fighter, I don't blame or demean them for doing it.

BUT, I believe if you have done it twice there's always a big risk it happens again when things get tough.

So I remain wary of Dubois, I see him as a fighter who can beat some but will lose badly to others, an entertaining and talented but still very flawed addition to the division, what's not to like from an entertainment POV?

I am absolutely shocked at how he he has bounced back and revived his career after losses to Joyce and Usyk. Most people would have written him off at that point in his career.

There is one thing that nobody ever mentions probably because most people do not like his promoter Frank Warren. I usually do not write about promoters and usually do not give them any props. But Frank stood by Daniel all the way. He openly favoured Daniel before and after the Joyce fight and also continued to deliver high quality, prominent fights even title challenges when most people thought Daniel did not deserve them. Quite frankly I do not understand how Frank managed to do that. I know most people on this forum hate Frank and I am usually not a fan either but I am tremendously impressed with what he has managed to achieve for Daniels career.

Props to Daniel for grabing those opportunities with both hands.

I hope it’s their next fight after Parker which he’ll outclass from from round 2.

I think he’ll squeak past Parker. He can’t beat Usyk and if his people werestup1d enough to put him in with Bakole,or even Zhang, that would be that. I’m not surprised at Iamthat backing DDD because he dksab.Surprise at Pnut. I thought his post before was just a joke about ‘a big doobie’ that blows your head off. I’m sure Pnut doesn’t seriously rate DDD?

He’s on a great run and although he is known for quitting , the time is now
This will be his make or break
Not sure if he would beat Usyk but I think it would be competitive even more so the second time around
