  • Comments Thread For: Examining the scorecards for the Oleksandr Usyk-Tyson Fury rematch

The judges agreed on the final score in Saturdays rematch between Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury 116-112 for Usyk across the board but the route each took to get there was very different.

Makes total sense. Was quite an even fight early, if you had Fury up after 5, wouldn't be a bad card.
Fury put everything into it and was able match energy levels and battle for foot position and centre of the ring...

...But keeping it up is a totally different story. Second half Fury didn't have the bounce/energy left, so he lost foot position and was ultimately unable to lead or counter and outworked.
    Usyk of course, doesn't tire.

Not sure if Fury did win any rounds in the second half.

Cards seem very fair to me.

Agreed that’s why he came in heavy ( just like wider 2nd fight ) always half a pace behind 2nd half fight although close rds usyk more the aggressor and fury more reactive under usyks dent foot .

Lets not use the cards as an excuse to have a " Trilogy " once was enough for me but twice was maybe needed for others any more and it will loose what both men gave to the two fights they had and more important to the proof of who the better man and more complete fighter it was in the ring........

Those 20 lbs against a skilled and swift fighter didn't pay out for Fury ... The blame is on his team for going that route...

Boring fight. Fury was a fat tub of lard and couldn't get anything off. Still, Usyk couldn't hurt Fury as most of Usyk's punches were picked off by Fury. Hardly any action - - just two guys playing patty cake with each other. This has to be the worst crop of heavyweights in my lifetime going back to the late 50's - early 60's. I mean, absolute trash. These heavyweights would have a hard time earning a sparring partner role with the heavyweights of yesteryear. I'm not waxing nostalgic.

Give Usyk his props but he doesn't crack the top ten in my all time heavyweight list. Not even close. Fury needs to retire. Enough of his B.S. Usyk could fight another ten years with the lack of talent in the current heavyweight division. I mean, the runway for big payday fights (as long as the Arabs are willing to foot the bill) is there for Uyyk's taking. He could probably fight two in one night and not break a sweat. Pathetic.

I agree that cards are very fair overall. Where judges disagreed, there were difficult rounds to score as they were competitive. I had trouble scoring the same rounds where judges did not agree with each other. I had Fury up after 5 and after that I struggled to give him anything because he didn't really try very hard until 12.

Boxing scoring is very subjective, even though they're given certain guidelines.

I don't think it was a decision you could call 'robbery', certainly not I'd say.

Maybe we'd think differently sitting at ringside looking at a fight, I'm not sure. They do see it somewhat differently watching at ringside.

I saw there was an argument saying Usyk's punches were more pitty pat punches, and Fury's were more effective. I don't think they were weak punches, as he did back Fury up a number of times.

All in all, it was a rather disappointing fight, but we expected a lot, maybe too much.
