Comments Thread For: Bob Arum: Teofimo Lopez-Boots Ennis is 'fight we want'

ever heard of the eye test? ever heard of context? Teo looked great at 135 - not so much at 140 and beating a faded Taylor is not the same as beating a prime Taylor - some fighters, and Taylor is one of em, have a high peak and descend rapidly. Prograis is another. Lomachenko has had a long prime stretched out over many fights.
Jamaine Ortiz and Sandor Martin gave Teo all he could handle and Martin arguably beat him. Boots is a level above Martin and a whole lot bigger - too much for Teo to bite off. But let him try - I want to see it same as I wanted to see Brook vs Golovkin, Charlo vs Canelo, Garcia vs Spence.Comment

I agree Bud would wreck Teo. Boots will also wreck Teo.
The idea of someone being “unproven” has lost its meaning in today’s crop of boxers.
We could say the same thing about Tank.
We could say the same thing about Shakur.
We could say the same thing about Ortiz especially because he left 147 before proving anything and then a virtual unknown at 154 “beats” him.
We could say the same thing about Haney. Let’s be real, beating Kambosos means squat and he got a gift against Loma who wiped the floor with Kambosos.
Watch how people start calling Abdullah Mason a hype job very soon “if he doesn’t step up”.

Jumping up two weight classes in my opinion is biting off more than one can true.
Let’s just wait and see. Teo can be both slippery and elusive at times but not that slippery and elusive.
Eventually, Jaron will find him and start touching him up. Remember that Boots is both young and fast also.

It sounds pretty cool I guess; it could sell some tickets.
An athletic fighter like Teo might be Ennis problems; I can see why TR might consider throwing him out there for a hail Mary. I'd just hate to see him summarily beaten and have him fall off the map like some other fighters being mentioned Brook, Charlo, Garcia.
But again, style wise it's not that bad for Teo imo. I also think Keith Thurman should consider fighting Ennis for the same reason.
Athletic guys who can move laterally and stop on a dime and throw power; Karen really showed a lot, jsut not enough powerComment

I agree with you. Teo's big advantage at 135 was his size (and power). Once he moved to 140 the KOs largely disappeared (except for Campa) which means that he is no longer bigger and stronger than the guys he is fighting. Moving up to 147 and fighting Boots straight up could be a career damaging mistake for Teo because he is probably not going to have enough power to hurt Boots and Boots will definitely have enough power to hurt Teo.

The actual lyric is "but the money's no good, just get a grip on yourself"
At the end of the verse just before the middle eight, Hugh Cornwell snarl's "and you should know"
Hence my comment.
Phkn loved the stranglers.
