Comments Thread For: Behind the scenes at VADA: A Q&A with Margaret Goodman

The Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA) was founded in 2011 by Dr. Margaret Goodman, a neurologist who formerly served as a ringside physician in Nevada. In the years since, it has come to be considered almost synonymous with PED testing in combat sports. But what exactly is VADA and how does it work? On the first episode of The Fighter Health Podcast, BoxingScene's Kieran Mulvaney spoke with Dr. Goodman; an abbreviated version of the interview, edited for clarity and brevity, is below.

VADA is working with Victor Conte and anyone working with Conte is suspect.

I wonder how they can confirm that the fighter’s urine is the same as the fighter? Do they watch you? Could making a switch be possible? Man, that would change things.

DNA is detected in urine samples from my understanding

I agree. There needs to be testing to make a change.

Oh yet another way to dodge testing. Say you’re enrolled with VADA but get your promoter to give them the smallest budget possible and spend the year training in the Maldives.

there is protocol and there is verifcation and there is someone observing the testing of urine. there is always ways to misrepresent a test but the only way to fake a piss test is to bring clean urine into the process and conceal it until you fill the cup or specimine jar........... use your imagination if you are going to substitute and know your donor............
