So basically, in the case of a lineal vacancy, if the independent rankings systems can't come to a consensus on the top two and/or those top two don't fight, the lineal can sit vacant for long periods of time - such as Holyfield leaving the cruiserweight division in 1988 and not having a lineal cruiser until 17 years later, right?
    Correct.

The lineal featherweight championship, for example, has been vacant since Manny Pacquiao vacated it in 2005. The crown remains vacant until someone earns it in the ring, they don't just hand it out to fill a vacancy.

Okay man you enjoy the undisputed title getting divided or Beterbiev-Eifert rather than Beterbiev-Bivol 2.
I'm not sensitive enough to think shiny objects change the significance of a fight all that much.

Usyk-Fury II won't have the IBF on the line either. Changes nothing.

As fans we should expect those mandos to be worthy, bud.

Is there even anyone who will give Opetaia much of a challenge at cruiser? He'll wreck Zurdo with ease, although I'd still like to see it.

Jai got an exemption to fight the Brit on a Saudi card knowing he'd have to fight the German next.

The IBF out here making the whiners cry again somehow.

He'd still be defending it if he faces Bivol again instead of Eifert. He'd just be defending it against a much better opponent.

You shouldn't be able to get into a mandatory position by fighting the caliber of opposition Eifert has faced. Period.

And yet nobody cried when the mando could have been Meng or Pascal. I even remember people saying Beterbiev vs Pascal would be a good event Canada.

Guy beats Pascal then the waterworks start...
