I have never heard that story, but something like that would explain the complete meltdown he had in the ring that night (or it could be just an excuse). On the other hand, it is hard to imagine that Lewis would be involved in something like that outside the ring. Don't really know what to think.Comment

the state commissions need to stop sanctioning these geriatric fights, someone will get serious brand damage or death and then its going to really *** up boxing across the board.
these guys in their mid to late 50s their reflexes are shot and they cant move. holyfield, tyson, roy jones, they all are shot to **** and should not be granted fighting licenses exhibiition or not
A lot of casuals tuning in to see the spectacle of these YouTubers fighting really old fighters are the same ones that will cry foul and call for a severe over-correction should the unthinkable happen.
Can anybody imagine the ****show and parade of asinine opinions from every nook and cranny of cable news outlet if Jake had decided to pull a Vítor Belfort on Mike? Netflix would’ve gotten so much flak.
I honestly feel it’s going to happen eventually and once it does, the boxing establishment is going to implement some half-assed safety measure but more for PR reasons.
There is no reason a 58 year old should be fighting, and if he is (seems the reason for Oliver McCall), they’ll match him with opponents with losing records.
I think the majority of people truly forget that boxing is more dangerous to health than UFC (Daniel Cormier himself has said that exactly). IN UFC, once you get hurt, fights are MUCH MUCH more likely to end because you can get ground and pounded, kicked, get dropped and submitted, etc.
In boxing, you can get concussed, dropped, and given a 10-count to get up and continue to fight with your brain still scrambled. Sustained, prolonged punishment, strike after strike after strike…Last edited by TintaBoricua; 11-20-2024, 05:06 PM.Comment

Also, not only will someone get serious brain damage, but as you mis-spelled there (BRAND DAMAGE) as well.
Nobody’s going to want to do any more business with a boxing organization (at least mainstream) if you are known as the promoter or organizer of a card that was televised on a huge platform where someone got beaten to death. It reeks of brand death.
I just hope more casuals were paying attention to the Barrios and Serrano fights and came away realizing boxing is still exciting once you look past the hollow entertainment of Paul/Tyson.Comment

The best thing about the meltdown in the Lewis rematch was the post fight press conference where MCCall was saying he had him right where he wanted him… it was something else to listen to…Comment
