Guillermo Rigondeaux, the former multi-division titleholder, knocked out Dannis Aguero on Tuesday night at E11EVEN Nightclub in Miami, Florida, in a junior featherweight bout. Rigondeaux, 44, a two-time Olympic gold medalist from the 2000 and 2004 Games, floored Aguero with a body shot in the first round for the stoppage.

Rigondeaux could have had such a great career if he had decided to fight in a fan friendly style. He always did have really good power. I'm Cuban and a boxing fanatic and even I gave up on Rigondeaux years ago. I just stopped watching any of his fights because I didn't want to be frustrated again.

Rigo had all the skills but none of the entertainment value. They tried to promote him but he was a black hole because he never amassed a fan base.

I love Dan Rafael’s podcast and respect him more than most journalists, but I was irritated to no end how he basically crapped on Rigo at every turn. We get it, he didn’t have the most fan friendly style, but his disdain for Rigo bled into his journalistic objectivity.

I’ve seen that Rigo-Donaire fight and it was 9-3 AT BEST for Donaire. Dan Rafael somehow scored it 7-5 for Rigo. Absolutely bonkers. That was one of the easiest fights I’ve ever scored.

It is as bad as Harold Lederman having a brainfart and scoring Paul Williams-Carlos Quintana 7-5 in favor of Williams.

I remember when people were pointing to Marroquin fight and saying that if he could rock and stun Rigo like he did, then Donaire would wipe him out. And I kept saying, that is not how boxing works. Dynamics don't often move from one fight to the next. There are many examples of fighters who were hurt, dropped or stopped by a lessor puncher - only to face a bigger puncher and they beat the greater puncher. Conditioning, Readiness, Defense, and most of all Styles can make a difference and change the dynamics. In short, if a fighter is hurt bad by a punch from a lighter punching fighter, it cannot be rationalized that a harder puncher is automatically going to hurt that fighter more - or even at all.

And yes, its a shame Rigo being as skilled as he is didnt had that killer instinct its was indeed frustrating to watch, good thing is the up & comer new wave of cuban fighters seem with totally different approach. I thought Rigo was retired tbh.

Even though Arum got a lot of blame for not backing Rigo when view rates were low, and he wasn't subtle about Rigo's market value, one thing is absolute is Arum got Rigo his two best paydays by about 10x. I think a little more aggression could have put more money in Rigo's bank account. He fought that one guy and took more punches but then leveled the guy flat with a left hook. I was excited that he may have finally altered his style to a more fan-friendly one. But he was superb in his prime.

They thought Rigo would have to retire when he burned his face in a kitchen accident. It was SO SAD to see him with his face like that. But he healed and got to fight some more to earn some money.
