  • Osley Iglesias, prospect or contender?

This coming Saturday, Iglesias is fighting again, his opponent Petro Ivanov an 18-0 prospect. How do you guys see him, prospect or contender? He has breezes through his competition just like countryman Morrell Jr and both are the same age.

Shallow top 10 contender that will likely be a top 5 in 2025 if he were to win his bout against Petro Ivanov.

However I think it be difficult to get him an opponent outside of Top Rank that isn't Erik Bazinyan and Christian Mbilli.

Agree, it is hard for these 168lbs because they're waiting for the lottery ticket. The alphabet soups organizations are at fault here, if they strip canelo you would see how hot the division will get. But as long as canelo keep those belts the line will get longer. We already missed benavidez vs Morrell Jr at 168, they're going to do it but 175.

This is listed as a Thursday fight per the ESPN schedule. What's the correct date?

Age 26 turning 27 next month, been pro for 5+ years. Has a good amount of amateur experience but only 12 fights as a pro in those 5+ years. Owns a regional title equivalent (IBO). Seems like a typical lower end contender than a prospect right now.

Personally it is very hard for me to call anyone that is almost 27 a prospect, especially if they have been pro for over 5 years.

When you take the pandemic into account, abd the fact that he's an standout amateur from Cuba, teams don't like the odds and offers don't come in bunches, so the quantity of fights are deceiving, quality is better. Example, berlanga(he was put on his @$$ and won by dec) fought coceres in his 18 fight, pacheco in his 20(knock him out in the 9th) and bazinyan in his 28(won by dec), Iglesias fought him in his 10th and knock him out in the first round. He's ranked 5 and 7 in two of the alphabet soups, so he is not that low, you're not going to see the nunguias, berlangas and pachecos of the world jumping in the ring with Iglesias anytime soon, just like mbilli and a bunch of other high end prospects refused to face Morrell Jr. Thank you for your input and I respect your opinion, I have always valued more quality over quantity, ten 100 bills is always better than 20 single bills. Be safe.

This is a Dejavu, basically the Super Middleweight division has been on the same state as the Welterweight division where Spence and Crawford had been holding all the belts hostage.

With other top contenders unwilling to keep active to avoid risking not getting a title shot. Except this time the division is stagnated even further because it is one fighter who is handedly picking opponents he deems easy pickings.
