Do we really know that they didn't vet Murtz?
It could be that all the prep in the world wouldn't have made a difference if Zoo was simply overmatched or didn't have the skills and ring IQ to deal with it.

I am pretty sure they were unprepared for Murtazaliev. I spent one hour watching a few of his fights a few days before and was shocked at how strong and fast he was. His punches were thrown in combinations with bad intentions and he looked very dangerous. I was genuinely scared for Tim and my conclusion was that he needs to box him for a few rounds to see what Murtazaliev has got before he really opens up.

At the same time, Tim was talking about being levels above Murtazaliev and they were talking about a list of future opponents. Another big mistake that every elite fighter steers clear from and shows they were overlooking him completely. When the first round started and Tim went all guns blazing, I knew he was unprepared and was in deep trouble but then it was too late.

Tzsyu didn't do his usual cautious and slow start in this fight. I didn't know much about Murtz but as soon as the fight started I was wondering why Tzsyu was in such a hurry and just plowing straight forward. After the fight I started to wonder if Tzsyu and his team's plan was to get Murtz out of there as quickly as possible because they thought he might be difficult down the stretch of the fight...OR, was it because Murtz was big and had a long reach, and Tim knew that he couldn't stay on the outside and get picked off all night? Tzsyu's strategy seemed odd, and in hindsight it looks really dumb. It's easy to say that after the fight is over though. Hindsight is 20/20.

He should have been concerned about that left hook that was landing all night.

You have just proven my point. I agree. Which is why they should have avoided this guy from the get go. Especially after coming off a loss.

These Eastern European fighters are a special type of breed. They are hungry, fundamentally sound and could fight.

Tszyu could have used at least a tune up fight or two before getting rushed back into the ring for a title fight. His management team really got burned, dropped the ball and lost on this one.

This fight is really going to set him back. It’s quite possible that it just may have ruined his career. I think it’s a bit premature to write him off just yet. He needs more time to rest and heal.

While also reassessing and reevaluating his career.

He was just overmatched that’s all.

Tim Tszyu should have never taken this fight or been able to jump ahead of the queue above fighters who were more deserving of this title shot than himself in the first place

This is what I call boxing politics at its worst because it backfired.
