Soon or later these two needed to fight, they were on a collision course.

Benavidez has nothing to gain lots to lose. Obviously a Morrell fan loves it as he gets to skip the line without doing any lifting.

Excellent. I’ll be looking forward to this one. Been looking forward to it for a while, actually. Morrell better bring his A-game.

Look at his resume and find me one fighter in his division that has fought the same opposition, or close in only 11 fights, including you boy benavidez.

Great news. . Will be amped for this one. Can’t say David ducks anyone after this. Glad they didn’t wait years and years to make it happen.

doesn't change the fact his resume is still crap and not a single top 10 guy.

                      Let's unpack this...

                      • David B. fought an older boxer who behaved like a stationary sparring partner. David B. gassed.

                      • David M. fought a younger, movement-oriented boxer who did everything in his power to shut down the other. David M. didn't gas.

                      • David B threw a lot of punches that landed cleanly. A lot. I applaud David B's underrated precision.

                      • David M. was economical with his punches. We know he more than likely hits harder than Benavidez, but is he as precise?

                      • Defensively, Benavidez tends to get hit more, and we haven't seen Morrell hit all that much until Hot Rod stepped to him. They could be even here.

                      • Both have spotty resumes; David B's is better.

                      • Gvozdyk was never in any real danger from David B's punches; Kalajdzic got into a few spots of trouble with David M's.

I don't know who wins. Pretty even when all things are considered. Benavidez might be able to overwhelm Morrell, but we've seen the latter inch away from trouble pretty effortlessly. I compared Morrell to Andrade in another thread; both are tricky and have/had the tools to offset someone like Benavidez, only Andrade quit at 36 when the going got rough. Morrell at 26/27 wants that smoke. Gun to my head, Benavidez wins with his experience, but I also wouldn't be surprised if he also shows up shot from so many years of weight draining himself and without properly acclimating to the weight before fighting someone young and fresh(er). Could be a star making fight for Morrell, but will only shut a few people up for Benavidez.
