Comments Thread For: Paulie Malignaggi's Picks: Gervonta Davis-Lamont Roach shouldn't be on pay-per-view

Lamont Roach is a good fighter. He's technically sound; he's a championship-level fighter. But as far as opponents for Gervonta "Tank" Davis in a pay-per-view event go, I'd prefer to see someone...

Tank’s fans will buy the fight. Even Paulie alludes to it. So your sarcasm misses its mark.

I just so happen to agree with Paulie. This fight shouldn’t be on Pay Per View.

However, it’s the only way Davis can get the type of pay he wants. He has to go out and bet on himself.

Al Haymon doesn’t do high guaranteed upfront offers because technically speaking; He isn’t a promoter.

He can only offer a fighter a low guarantee and a high percentage of the fight’s revenue and gross. The fighters get their pay on the back end this way.

This way If the fight flops on pay per view then Haymon won’t have to assume any of the responsibility. He leaves that responsibility squarely on the fighter.

So it’s up to the fighters to go out and sell and promote their own fights. In order to receive the type of pay they want.

Paulie you are correct. Gervonta is a ppv star but WHEN IS HE GONNA FIGHT A CREDIBLE OPPONENT?

People have to stop paying for fights, rather than just complain!

"I’m happy to go on record as writing that I don’t believe Stevenson-Davis will happen in 2025, and while I expect Stevenson-Zepeda to take place, it will be late in the year, instead of early, as we’ve also been told" - Paulie Malignaggi

Why? I thought it was going to be in February???

yea true fight fans have to stop paying for fights and also stop paying attention to fights that do not matter and are just a way to keep certain fighters and there promo boys in the money. i always beleived that if two or three big PPV fights were seriously boycotted it would get the attention of the Promoters and match makers. But getting fight fans to agree on much of anything is a long shot at best. everybody knows G.Davis is a manufactured undeserved PPV fighter.

you are right, to say that like nobody noticed that G.Davis is just a manufactured PPV fighter is stating the obvious.
