Rey Vargas might be a path to unify. Inoue would be a path to a nap.

'We can all agree Ball is one gutsy Sob and a guaranteed action fighter but lets face it Naoya is going to have a target practice session with him, there is a significant gap in boxing technique'

If Monster steps up, there'll also be a significant difference in size & strength. How many times has a stronger boxer 'rag dolled' a more skilful man? Well, Pryor v Arguello, Honeyghan v Curry, Chavez v Rosario & Harada v Jofre all jump easily to mind.

As well as every great Rocky Marciano fight!

I'm not intending to downplay his skills, but I think you could say that Marvelous Marvin didn't have the exceptional skills that Tommy Hearns had. Marvin was too big, too strong & just too much for someone who had height & reach & had proved his exceptional skills by outboxing Benitez, who was himself an extraordinary talent.

Slow week of boxing and this website isn’t doing such a good job of reporting boxing news outside of actual cards. I hope this is merely transitional throwing pains….

Ball should be a bantamweight. He gives up too much height and reach. He leaps in to cut distance and wrestles to stay inside. Pushing and shoving, punching in between. He's a stumpy mauler and as far as hating English fighters. I thought he was Irish.

"Everyone on the planet" meaning brits? At least one of the knockdowns, if not both, were shoves, in which Vargas was already on the way to the canvas without being punched first, but punched on the way down instead. If called correctly it's a clear win for Vargas.

Has anyone else noticed that boxrec hasn't recognize Ball as WBA champ?

BoxRec has pulled all mentions of WBA titles in fighter's records — but not from its Wiki sections — because the WBA, in partnership with FightFax, allegedly skimmed a ton of info from the BoxRec site to relaunch FightFax.

My bad , for some reason I imagined that you were talking about the Rios fight , brain fart on my part.

It's fine to punch someone on the way down .
