  • I think Zurdo Ramirez is more hated than what he deserves.

Gilberto Ramirez talked a big game prior to losing one sidedly to the proven light heavyweight Russian Dmitry Bivol whose a P4P talent and always talked about wanting to fight Canelo at 168-175 as he was around the same division, after losing his long but shallow record of 44-0 to 44-1, he seemed to had a big hit to his ego and temporarily down spiraled out of the ring having a bad drunken behavior in Mazatlan, Sinaloa (a state in Mexico) , however Bivol is a P4P talent with the right skillset to beat him along with the athletic ability. Zurdo is not a one punch KO artist at 175 but through accumulation all his victories in the division where via KO/TKO against ranked fighters in Tommy Karpency, Yunieski Gonzalez and Dominic Boesel.

After his loss, he did step up in level of opposition as well, improving to be a well-rounded set of skills after hiring Malik Scott accompanying his current team, a granite chin and despite still being heavy handed, no longer aimed to look for the finish the fight in his recent bouts, coming back after his loss he faced against a fellow Light Heavyweight knockout artist in Joe Smith Jr in a close bout of 10 rounds, who also was coming off a loss to another champion in Arthur Beterviev and unlike Ramirez, was a light heavyweight champion.

Zurdo also became the WBA Cruiserweight Champion after fighting an inactive but undefeated and rugged veteran, who managed to retain the belt for 17 months (2 years). Arsen still was a pretty competent fighter despite his 8-4 loss to Ramirez. Gilberto was in talks against top 5 Cruiserweight ranked Yuniel Dorticos and is now currently scheduled to fight current WBO champion Chris Billiam Smith, who has an active record of 20-1 (13 KOs).

I don't think he ever beats Bivol, nor perhaps Beterviev, but honestly think he would have fared well against most of the fighters at 175 like Callum Smith, Richards, Kalajdzic, Yarde, Buatsi and Gvozdyk. He is having a pretty good run at 200.

Not sure how he fair against Benavidez and Morrell till they have more performances to watch after their light heavyweight debuts. But feel like he be quite underestimated. Also not sure if Canelo would have the means to beat him due to the size disparity.

He's faced less than 5 quality opponents in 47 fights across four weight divisions. If anything he should be ridiculed more than he already is.

Wouldn't say he has a Hall Of Fame resume nor would I say that it is great, but he did beat well rated fighters that were around in his division such as:

Jesse Hart X2 (22-0) (25-2) Mandatory and challenger for the WBO Super Middleweight title.

Maxim Vlassov (30-1) challenged for the WBO interim cruiserweight title in 2018, and the WBO light-heavyweight title in April 2021.

Arthur Abraham (44-4) WBO Super Middleweight Champion.

Alexis Roamer Angulo (23-0) WBO challenger for the world title against Zurdo and WBC challenger against David Benavidez.

Yunieski Gonzalez (21-3) top 10 WBA ranked fighter at light heavyweight.

Dominic Bosel (32-2) WBA top 10 ranked fighter.

Joe Smith Jr (28-4) former WBO light heavyweight champion.

Arsen Goulamirian (27-0) WBA cruiserweight champion.

Although he lost quite dominantly, he also challenged and went the distance with Dimitri Bivol.

Also think Super Middleweight was already quite weak before Plant and Saunders came along. Though Zurdo's run at 175 was lackluster for the most part as he could had fought elite fighters like Gvozdyk or a Joshua Buatsi. I say most resumes in the current landscape of professional boxing are not that much better, unless you include the best of the best. There are fighters similar in age like let's say Janibek, Tim Tszyu, or Oshaquie Foster, yet I don't see much criticism for them despite not even having 5 names of elite fighters.

He might perform better now that he can make 25 more pounds, but honestly don't think that be enough to counter Bivol's boxing skills and difference in handspeed.

                VS small light heavy Biv

                Zurdo took 2 to 3 rounds: 2, 3, and maybe the 10th

                Alvarez took 3 rounds: 2, 4, and 9

Zurdo VS Jai is it. They have similar height and reach

Zurdo is a good, solid fighter who has usually had size advantages over his opponents but his limitations (namely foot and hand speed) are very evident. I think this, combined with his weight issues contribute to how people view him.

His shootout against Yuniesky Gonzalez was an entertaining scrap but he had no business getting hit so clean against a fighter as shopworn as the Cuban.
