  • If Errol Spence Jr. competed at 154-160 during his prime, how well would he had faired?

Errol Spence Jr. (born March 3, 1990) is an American professional boxer. He is a former unified champion in the welterweight division, having held the World Boxing Association (WBA) (Super version), World Boxing Council (WBC), and International Boxing Federation (IBF) titles between 2017 and 2023. As an amateur, in the welterweight division, he won three consecutive United States national championships and represented the U.S. at the 2012 Olympics, where he reached the quarter-finals. In 2015, Spence was named Prospect of the Year by ESPN.

With a record of 28-1 (22 KOs) he has beaten Mikey Garcia, Danny Garcia, Lamont Peterson, Kelly Brook, Shawn Porter and Yordenis Ugas

As he was known for his punch output and conditioning, along with his punch resistance and size advantage at Welterweight as he was called "Big Fish". How would he had faired if he fought against the likes of:

    154
    Tony Harrison
    Erickson Lubin
    Brian Castano
    Erislandy Lara
    Jarrett Hurd
    Jermell Charlo
    Tim Tszyu

    160
    Sergey Derevychenko
    Ryota Murata
    Chris Eubank Jr
    Jermall Charlo
    Jaime Munguia
    Demetrius Andrade
    Daniel Jacobs
    Saul "Canelo" Alvarez
    Gennady Golovkin

Think he would have struggled at 160 but become undisputed at 154

I think he would convincingly beaten the likes of Castano, Harrison and Lubin. But feel like Hurd's absurd size will be difficult to overcome though he doesn't bring much to the table other than quick snappy jab, while illusive boxer punchers like Lara and Jermell will be 50/50 fights for Spence. He could potentially beat either yes considering the smaller Charlo was uncomfortable with Castaño's pressure and so was Lara against Angulo though he won convincingly by TKO, not sure if Spence would be undisputed however.

Hope to see more of Tim Tszyu to see if he is as good as advertised.

I still don't know what people saw in Spence. You really think his style would translate well if he were the smaller guy in all his fights? I expect he'd win some, but he'd lose a fair number of those matchups too, especially at 160. I have always thought he was a basic fighter who used his physical talents relative to the weight class, and careful and skilled in-house PBC matchmaking to excel. I think he knew that too, which is why his entire career was spent at 147, and why he defended his IBF belt, which comes with rehydration limits, only one time in 4 years. Feel free to explain to me what made him P4P in your mind. I've been questioning that since well before the Crawford fight.

He would have been consigned to journeyman status very quick. No way he's beating Lara. Actually maybe he would have been gifted a robbery vs Lara. Would have been smoked at 160 though

Why is Errol now being talked about as if he’s a retired fighter lol

since he hasnt boxed in well over a year, and has no serious conversations ongoing about fighting, then its well within reason for people to speculate that he is retired.......

Edit: He certainly might consider a cash-out fight while he still has some name value, but you would think that if he was going to do a "tune up" bout or something, that he would already have done so......

Loses to Lara, Castano and likely also Tszyu. Hurd size probably gives him major problems too as long as it's the Hurd up to the Lara fight and not after.

He would've probably been matched very carefully & picked up a few trinket belts to set up a big payday against Canelo
