  • Mayweather and PAC unintentionally hurt boxing badly

People always say Mayweather ruined boxing but say it for the wrong reasons and never mention how PAC damaged it too. They both hurt boxing unintentionally and this is how.

Mayweather hurt boxing because he made future fighters infatuated with huge paydays. The difference is that Mayweather worked, sacrificed and grinded his way to becoming Money May. And even then, he was fighting the best out there. People forget about how commentators used to throw dirt on his name about how he was p4p #1 but he wasn’t a draw. Mayweather was ducked by the top fighters/promoters because he was high risk/low reward, including Mosley and Cotto(Bob Arum) who he beat later. Fighters only see the rewards of Floyd and skip past wanting to put in the work. They choose the easiest competition available and don’t care anything about their resume. Bud is a perfect example. The best don’t want to fight the best, they want winnable fights for big money.

Pacquaio hurt boxing because IN PART his name was built off being attached to Mayweather. Now these fighters do the same without building their own legacy. Benavidez attached to Canelo. Shakur attached to Tank. Bud was attached to Spence. THE DIFFERENCE is that Pac actually fought the best fights and built his own legacy without needing Mayweather. But these fighters don’t do that, they keep relevance by attaching their name to the more popular fighter, and take c and b level fights until hopefully they get a fight with the more popular fighter. They want the big buildup like Mayweather-Pacquiao and the huge payday but they want to cherry-pick their way to it.

Boxing is dying and guys like Jake Paul can come and do better numbers than actually champions because boxing is so weak. It’s weak because these guys just won’t fight the best.

mosley & cotto were late and other big fights never happened as well

floyd was like canelo is now, whoever he fought gets him what he wanted, i think

Pacs name was built off mayweather?? Nothing to do with his far more exciting and fan pleasing style than mayweathers??

How does this correlate to Tank Davis for still not having any fight scheduled?

they changed boxing but you would have to look before them to say how much they hurt boxing.

mayweather followed in the footsteps of DLH as far as boxers having more control over the match making and revenue. Both of them splitting from Arum and becoming their own promoters made a big impact.

But when both were with Top Rank, lets see what we had. You had Don King still a big part and Don King controlled heavyweight. Lennox refused to sign his ****ty contracts and so Lennox was blocked out of really unifying. So you had a bunch of chumps like John Ruiz and Chris Byrd all having belts who would have been steam rolled by Lennox.

The pre Mayweather/Pac era had its own problems.

Now days though I see Turki about to cause the same problems. We will see what he does now that the Joshua fight didnt go the way he wanted, will he try to manipulate the boxing market or not. But at minimum in the future i can see fighters holding out for Saudi money and refusing to fight but Turki cant do every single fight, people are going to have to fight without him for less. and if its a match up that Turki doesnt particularly care for then they are at a stand still with the fighters demanding money only he could pay but if he chooses not it its an issue.

Pac would have always been huge. hes a charismatic KO artist. sure his rivalry is always linked to mayweather since they were in the same division but he would have been huge regardless.

People have short memories. They forget how Arum was destroying fighters, along with King, albeit in a different way. DHL was always a draw, his decision to break from Arum was easy to make. Mayweather needed that fight with him badly and when he got it, he became financially successful. Fighters just did not take the right lessons from the King/Arum era. I hate the Paul brothers with a passion, they are scammers, none to bright, nothing special. But through self promotion on social media their success should tell all these young guys what to do!

Saudi money has been a nice shot in the ar, particularly to the heavyweight division. But who needs a promoter to deal with the Saudi financers? these fighters have to fight, fight well, fight often, and talk a lot of shiat on social media...

people might not know but floyd priced himself out against hoya when he was with top rank, obviously he did this to avoid the cotto and marg fights, but he wanted 20 million guaranteed to figth hoya when he was with top rank, but when he left top rank he happily accepted 10 million guaranteed. its strange to blame arum when it was floyd who wanted the easy path the whole time, which was a fight against an old hoya for big money instead of being matched tough against prime guys liek cotto/marg

Part of his name was built off Mayweather. Yes. I also said Pacquaio built his own legacy by fighting the best fights. But, a chunk of Pacquiaos popularity was built off being linked to being a dream rivalry with Mayweather. I repeat, Pacquaio built his own legacy and had his own popularity but he was never anywhere near as big a star as Mayweather.
