Why would he hang them up? He's 34, still in prime for a HW. He got caught in the 1st round and it affected him for the rest of the fight. He's come back from defeats before. Absolutely no reason to retire. He has time and skills to rebuild.

He should. I think Parker, Kabayel and Bakole beat him even worse than Dubois did at this point.

He probably has about 3 years at any kind of decent level, if he has enough left.
He can "rebuild", but it's worth remembering this was his first real challenge after the last rebuild and he got chinned.
I dont think there will be much of a rebuild now, I think it'll be mostly competitive opponents and see what happens.
I don't think he needs to retire, I just think he needs to forget a long 3 fight rebuild and just make the most of the latter stage of his career.Last edited by deathofaclown; 09-22-2024, 03:07 AM.

It was hard to buy into the "AJ is back" or "the new AJ" talk given the level of his opponents during that comeback, having said that I still tentatively expected him to win last night. We all knew how dangerous Dubois is and his recent wins were a lot more meaningful than AJ's so I couldn't write him off. I was kind of on the fence with this one but the one-sided fashion of Dubois' win, how AJ looked affected and hurt anytime Dubois landed and the fact that AJ went back to the old habits of having his hands low and backing up with his chin in the air just tells me that he hasn't got much left. It's hard to see how he gets back to the top level after that. Yeah, he might be able to look good against much lesser opposition, make a lot of money doing so and convince some 'casuals' that he's "back" but ultimately, it will be the same outcome if he's in there with someone in the top 5.
I think it's time for him to retire but he probably won't.
