  • Comments Thread For: Jaime Munguia spinning Canelo Alvarez loss into big gains

In exchange for the toll of his first loss, Jaime Munguia continues to learn how greatly he cashed in so many more valuable opportunities - including Friday's bout against Erik Bazinyan on ESPN's platform.

Munguia is a pretty entertaining fighter, his punching power translated pretty good moving up from 154 to 168. And while I think it's true that his porous defense also can put him in at a disadvantage against anyone, he still has a pretty good shot of beatig Pacheco, Mbilli, Scull, and Bektemir. Not so sure about Plant.

I agree with Munguia - if Canelo could have finished him he would have done it.

On a separate note, it is incredible how Mexican's support their fighters. After Canelo, Jamie is now going back to fighting nobodies, like he has done for a long time and it seems he will do well, money wise. Years ago, he threatened to do something big, but somehow in never happened. I don't know if it is him or Oscar, but it almost looks like his record was carefully orchestrated for that one big fight, one big money grab.

The story within the story is Top Rank's plan to offer their fights to various platforms (once the ESPN deal expires) and how they've stockpiled Mexican and Mexican-American fighters to attract that fanbase. Ol' Bob is always thinking a few steps ahead to survive .

There is some truth to this. I also thought Floyd lost to Oscar and the first Castillo fight. Nevertheless, he always somehow found the way to win and hr fought literally everybody who was anybody.

Good, thats exactly what Mungia needs to do keep himself active with a bounce back fight, then take on any of the top contenders or an IBF eliminator for that matter. Thats exactly what Berlanga needs to do as well, take advantage of the momentum from having just fought Canelo to their favor. Plenty of good matchups to make at 168.

Sure, itīs about money but Bob has always liked Mexicans and Mexicans never disapoint as opposed to Afro fighters.

Floyd lost both fights to Maidana, a draw or a loss vs a one-armed Paquiao, never gave Canelo a rematch and should have been disqualified at least 5 tines from hugging and running. Anyone can win by punching, get a point, hold so the opponent doesnīt get a point, run, punch and hold again, etc. Floyd was the most boring fighter, helped by the system, only fought in the US (Vegas), cherry picked and was unable to knockout a Girl Scout.
