Comments Thread For: Denied victory, Trevor McCumby left Las Vegas with something else: respect
Trevor McCumby earned respect Saturday night at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, despite suffering his first career loss to former super middleweight titleholder Caleb Plant.

Put him back in with Berlanga, Mbilli, Munguia, Derevy, etc
He may very well stop Berlanga, whose physical talents don’t match his lower than expected IQ “talent.” Devry gets stopped on some kind of injury. Not sure about Mbilli but I’m not as impressed with him as others are. Munguia I would favour though due to experience. But I will say this, McCumby is the biggest and strongest super middleweight I have seen in a long time. His sheer size and strength were extremely impressive. I’m sure it helps to have Bones Adams ad a trainer but I think it would also help him to improve his corner as well. Plant was on his way to a stoppage loss if he hadn’t used his experience to adjust to close quarters and push the bigger man to the ropes. That left hook to the body broke McCumby down. Top tier experience for on that fight for Plant, who had absolutely no physical advantages over McCumby. I’m my
opinion that was Plant’s best win and a fight of the year candidate. Say what you will about Plant, for a fighter who chooses the boxer style, he is NEVER in a boring fight. Oh, and may I add that I was also impressed with plant’s stamina in this one. I expected him to slow down and he didn’t.
Surprisingly good fight. Either McCumby is better than most thought or Plant isn't all that! I believe the former is true. It's too bad that this dude had such a long layoff. Four and a half years is a long stretch of inactivity but he is still only 31 years old. I would definitely love to see him stay active and continue to bring the excitement. There are some good fights out there at 168. Canelo perhaps, lol. Just kidding but you never know!

Great analysis. Both guys put on a hell of a show. I wouldn't mind a rematch but I doubt it will happen.
And he can legitimately say that he shares something with Canelo: they are the only ones to have dropped Plant. Not even Benavidez can say that.
That boy’s stock is gonna rise and I expect big things from him. He’s getting a second chance at making a name for himself; hope he doesn’t squander it. McCumby’s good. Hope he gets even better!
Surprised to see two American White boys going head to head and it was a very good fight. We need more White Americans, not just White Brits or overhyped African Americans.
