  • Comments Thread For: The stats that prove Canelo Alvarez is not the same fighter he once was

It is not new information that Saul "Canelo" Alvarez is not the fighter he was several years ago, but that is more observation than criticism.

Canelo is a pretty great fighter, even on an obvious decline. We know that.

How about an article on the gradual disintegration of his backbone?

Someone please remind this idiot tris Dixon that in case he hasn’t noticed Canelo isn’t an ANDROID. Canelo is a normal human being who OBVIOUSLY is gonna decline as he ages. Dumb ignorant

"while that crept up to 25.8 per cent at middleweight, the two give-and-take fights with Golovkin warped that stat"

So against arguably his only meaningful opponent he wasn't as defensively savvy, surprise surprise.

You can't just essentially ignore the one significant opponent and imply it's a blip that doesn't represent his defensive stats, that's beyond asinine.

its the wilder thing where he has a 100 percent ko ratio against tomato cans and bums but against top 10 guys its 25 percent

But but but but, Mayweather. Aren’t y’all tired? Floyd had a low punching thrown output while having a high connect rate, effective and efficient, no wasted energy and effort. Canelo is doing his thing and has his own style, let him enjoy his moment.

This is a decent analysis, but nothing that was unexpected. Canelo's reflexes and output, like every other fighter's, decline when they are past their prime. My guess he has at most 2-3 productive years left at the elite level. We shall see.

Well when you got 60+ pro fights under the belt its obvious the punch output will gradually decrease as well, Alvarez became more selective with his punches, trades volume for accuracy.

                    Literally happens to every boxer
