Canelo took the fight because Berlanga is not a good fighter and he has struggled against B level guys over the last few years. He knocked cans out and has some power, but when a guy comes to fight him and doesn't wilt after the first big punch, Berlanga has no clue what to do.

Combine that with Canelo's chin, which IS legendary, and Berlanga gets stopped, most likely from accumulation. Even at this late stage Canelo almost certainly beats him. There is the miracle shot that Berlana could land if Saul gasses out, but that is like 90% chance to not happen, imo.

Berlanga is going in for a career payday and will likely fight a few more payday fights after this and quit. He isn't good enough to beat anyone good and he doesn't seem ****** enough to stick around and get brain damaged. Saul is these guys retirement plans.

Yeah, I wonder how many here on these pages ever saw what McCall did that night against Lennox.
I was watching live and couldn't believe what I was seeing.
On the one hand I was cringing on behalf of McCall who clearly was suffering immensely.
But I was also - and selfishly - kinda pissed off because I wanted to see a real fight!

It seems clear that Canelo wants to demonstrate to Berlanga that there are levels to this thing. Most of us have experienced a level of success at something, and all of us — unless you’ve been a champion — know what it’s like to bump up against someone better. It’s like hitting a concrete wall; you just can’t get past it. Edgar is about to confront the undisputed champion of his division, arguably an ATG. We all know what the outcome will be. But I have a feeling Edgar will be humbled to the point of expression. I don’t think he understands what awaits him — but he’s about to find out.

I don't specifically remember what George said but I do remember Lampley and whoever else was there (Merchant probably) coming across as fairly dry and clinical. Maybe they were just taken aback and not prepared to put on their psychologist hats. I'm not criticizing them for it. They probably didn't fully grasp the situation in real time. George would know the mindset and pressure of a fighter in that situation, though. I truly love GF.

I believe he said "that's ok" and something to the effect of wanting to just hug the guy. For some reason I want to believe it was him(George), having to deal with the immense pressure he felt in Zaire when he faced Ali and the chants of "Ali boma ye", by the locals.

Such a long time ago, but that's kinda how I remember it...

Berlanga made Canelo angry when he said he has more intelligence and IQ than the Mexican superstar.
So don't act like you're not the one who started it. And now you're angrier because he responded.

Loved his commentating and insight! I remember thinking that Lampley was not very fond of George's commentating until after the riot broke out during the Bowe-Golata fight. Lampley thanked Big George on air for keeping him and Merchant safe by shielding the both of them. Lampley actually said that George kept the rioters away by swinging at them and threatening to bash some skulls.

Lampley's on air attitude towards George completely changed after that incident. I could only imagine how scared Lampley and Merchant must have felt.

Merchant and Lampley are both little short guys, although Lampley looks bigger because he has a big head.
Good on George! Who wouldn't want GF there swinging away while protecting you in a free-for-all? LOL
