Comments Thread For: Canelo Alvarez making moves on his terms - 'and I'm in no hurry'

Firstly I have to say I am not a member of a Canelo fan club, but I respect him as a boxer and as a businessman. I respect his accomplishments but I can see he is clearly not the best. He has lost a few fights - some losses are on his record and some are not. Floyd and Bivol dominated him, others were more competitive but clear losses, even though the scorecards never reflect that. He clearly lost the first GGG fight and possibly even the second one, although that was more competitive and controversial. He probably lost to Lara as well.
Nevertheless, what I respect the most about him is - that he is his own man. How many of us can really say that? I don't like that he is avoiding the obvious fights, but I respect his freedom to do what he likes. He does not seem to care what we think of him. He does not seem to care how much criticism he receives for ducking Benavidez and does not yield to Turki's pressure either. He does things in his own time regardless of any outside pressure. How many of us can really stand up to the outside world and do what we want to do regardless of the consequences?
I realise this is not the most popular view on this site and will most likely draw a lot of criticism, but I just thought I would offer a slightly different view on Canelo and his character. I do not believe that money and success have destroyed him. I believe that he lives in a Fuuccckk You World and behaves accordingly regardless of the price he has to pay.Last edited by BrankoB; 09-06-2024, 03:14 PM.Verus likes this.
